Cahawba

Cahawba, Alabama (also spelled as Cahaba) was Alabama's first capital. The area is located at the confluence of the Alabama and Cahaba rivers, causing it to suffer from regular seasonal flooding. In 1826, the state legislature moved the capital to Tuscaloosa. The ghost town that remains was abandoned after the Civil War and it now features empty buildings, a slave burial ground, and creepy cemeteries. It is also the site of some strange paranormal activity. One of the most famous legends is that of a luminous floating orb that appears in the former garden maze of Colonel C.C. Pegues's house. The orb started appearing shortly after the colonel was killed in battle. The phenomenon became known as "Pegues’s Ghost."
