St. James Hotel

Dating back to 1837, the St. James Hotel in Selma is one of the oldest buildings in all of Alabama. During the Civil War, it was used as the headquarters for Union troops and survived the burning of city buildings after the Battle of Selma. The hotel's most haunted rooms are said to be 214, 314, and 315. So, if you're a fan of all things paranormal, stay in one of these rooms! Some spirits that are said to linger at the local include Jesse James, his girlfriend Lucina, and a ghostly dog.

Some of the eerie tales surrounding the hotel include the apparition of a man (believed to be James) wearing Cowboy clothing from the 1880s. His apparition has been spotted walking out of the rooms mentioned, the places in which he stayed during his visits here. He has also been seen sitting at the bar at his favorite table in the corner. Lucinda's ghost has been seen wandering down the hallways of the hotel. After her presence was known, she would leave the smell of lavender behind.
