The Drish House - Real Tuscaloosa Haunt

  • 2300 17th St.
  • Tuscaloosa, AL
The Historic Drish House in Tuscaloosa is a well known spot for paranormal activity. It dates back to 1937 and was built by Dr. John R. Drish over a plantation that offered 450 acres. Stories say that Dr. Drish fell down a stairway while drunk in 1867 and died. His wife became obsessed with planning her husband's funeral and even wanted the same candles used at his to be used at her own funeral. When she passed in 1884, the family searched the entire house for the candles but could not find them. This angered his wife so much that she came back to haunt the house and even allegedly caused a fire in the tower on the third story by lighting the candles. Kathryn Tucker Windham featured the Drish House in her popular book of ghost stories, in the short story, “Death Lights in the Tower."
