Woodlands Hospital, now known as The Sanctuary at the Woodlands, is currently an inpatient psychiatric facility designed for adult and geriatric patients run by USA Healthcare. Past employees have told tales of a ghost named Homer who is known to roam the halls. According to their stories, Homer likes to flush the toilets or turn the ice machines on, and will sometimes brush past people, leaving them with a chilled feeling. Patients and staff alike have reported seeing a dark form moving through the halls.

I work here and I’ve never seen anything out of character!! I’ve been in every room here and I’ve never seen nor have I heard anything out of the normal. I’ve in back in Homer hall by myself with only a tiny light to see by and never seen anything!!

  • Yep

Worked in the old er area, which was converted for Comfort care hospice. When on call and had to go to the office at night, he was there. Went in to pick up something, I left it on the counter by mistake and he wouldn't let me out of the door until I remembered and went back to get it. Then like majic the automatic door opened letting me out. I thanked him and went on my way. Ever since then when I had to go in at night, I always said, Hello Homer, just dropped by to pick something up. Never had another problem.

  • Worked in the ER

I used to work as a paramedic for Cullman EMS. At one point, after the tornadoes went through in 2011 and tore up our station, we were stationed out of the old Emergency room at woodland. They were only using it for storage at the time as it was now a mental health facility. We definitely had some strange occurrences to say the least. We were skeptical at first, until we saw that you could ask Homer to do things and he would. He would turn lights in other rooms off and on when you asked him to, he would close doors, make stuff fall, etc. Working the night shift there was a little unnerving at times. Rooms would suddenly turn really cold to where you see your breath for no reason at all. We had to keep our keys in a locked cabinet because they kept getting moved. Never saw the dark figure that some claim to have seen, but I do believe it is haunted.

  • my great grandmother worked there

My great grandmother worked there in the 80’s and she said the rumors about Homer are true. He would flush the toilets and turn the ice machine on, she said she’d even seen him roaming the halls one night.
