Gaineswood is a plantation house in Demopolis which took nearly twenty years to build to completion, and was not finished until the eve of the Civil War. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and is currently operated as a historic house museum, and is alleged to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman. The woman died prematurely while on a visit to the plantation; some say that she was angered when her body was not immediately returned to her home state for burial, which is why her spirit remains behind, but the ghost does not seem to actually be particularly troublesome. Her haunting activities mostly revolved around playing the piano.
