The Tutwiler Hotel is said to be haunted by a mischievous spirit who likes to turn on lights and appliances inside the building. Some have suggested that the ghost belongs to Colonel Tutwiler himself, however the current hotel is not actually the original building that once bore his name, and is in fact located in a different location which had previously been an apartment complex. It is possible that the ghost belongs to a former resident of the old Ridgeley apartments who lived there before they were renovated to become the new Tutwiler in the mid 1980s.

  • ghost attacked me in my sleep

i was laying on my back in my bed asleep (my mom was in the other bed). i woke up and there was a shadow figure standing over me with one foot on either side of my head. the next day i ask my mom about it and she says i woke her up by screaming and asking her if she was standing over me. also one of the lights flickered & we heard weird knocking. customer service 10/10 though.

  • Super scary

My girlfriend and I had a SUPER scary experience at the Tutwiler. After an uneventful first night, we began to notice strange happenings (strange noises, suitcases falling over etc.) and in the middle of the night something came and knocked on the door loudly, I jumped out of bed, hurried over and threw the door open to find nothing there. And then a skeleton popped out.

  • 8th floor, cat or small dog run by my leg

While standing at the tourist brochure stand, a small animal, I believe a cat (spirit) ran by my right ankle. Quickly. I went to move out of it's way, looked down nothing there. And the hallway was CRAZY cold, like a cold draft blew on my neck. I am not afraid the spirit did not seem threatening. Also while in our suite (500), while in the bathroom you could hear knocking on the wall from inside of the room, no one was there.
